Maxine Horne named Brisbane's top business person
Vita Group CEO and founder, Maxine Horne, was named Brisbane’s top business person at the annual Lord Mayor’s Business Awards on Friday evening.
Ms Horne received The Courier-Mail Award for Business Person of the Year 2019 at the City Hall gala ceremony amidst 650 of her Brisbane business colleagues.
Since settling in Brisbane, starting a business in 1993 and then founding the Vita Group in 1995, Ms Horne has taken the business from a single store to a multi-channel ASX listed retailer generating revenues of $753.7 million in FY19.
Today the group has a portfolio of more than 100 Telstra stores, a B2B accessories brand Sprout, 17 Artisan Aesthetic clinics, and three SQD Athletica stores. The group’s support team is based in Brisbane, supporting the operations of 1,700 team members across Australia. Since its inception in 2016, the Vita Foundation, Vita Group’s philanthropic arm, has supported through effort and time as well as donating more than $1.6 million to charities nationally, including its hero charity Brisbane-based ‘Act for Kids’
Ms Horne was both surprised and delighted by the win.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Ms Horne was a role model for aspiring business people and described her leadership and passion as inspirational.“Ms Horne is a shining example of how an entrepreneurial spirit, astute business acumen and determination to succeed can grow a prosperous business in Brisbane and beyond,” he said.
