Vita Foundation awards two $10,000 grants to The Board Meeting Surf Charity and WA Pet Project
The Vita Foundation is very pleased to award two $10,000 grants to The Board Meeting Surf Charity and WA Pet Project as part of our Vita Foundation Grants Program.
An initiative that we run three times a year to encourage our Vita peeps to support local charities and organisations, the Vita Foundation Grants Program asks our team members to apply for one off grants to help causes that meet an immediate need in their community.
The Board Meeting Surf Charity, which was submitted by Mark in our One Zero Communications Support team, is a Sunshine Coast charity that was formed by a group of corporate surfers in 2005 to help fund kids with disabilities who have fallen through the cracks of Government support.
Now with the Vita Foundation grant, they’ll be able to expand their services further and launch an initiative to fund respite care for children with severe disabilities.
“We have discovered there are very few sources of funding for respite care for severely disabled kids,” says The Board Meeting Surf Charity Chairman, Mark Skinner. “By being able to extend The Board Meeting’s charter to assist, we’ll be able to make a huge difference in people’s lives, by giving kids access to high-end professional care away from home, and by allowing families to take a moment for themselves.”
The WA Pet Project, which was submitted by Teleah from Telstra Store Rockingham, is a relatively new charity, formed late 2015. They provide a pet foster program where they rehome unwanted cats and dogs, provide free dog training, and educate their community on responsible pet ownership.
Receiving no government or corporate funding, WA Pet Project are planning to use their Vita Foundation Grant to fund their Spay it Forward program that will provide free sterilisation of pets in conjunction with partnered vet clinics.
“We've had this in the pipeline since we launched almost a year ago but due to the lack of funds we just haven't been able to focus on this project,” says Edith Balatonyi – President of WA Pet Project. “With the $10,000 grant thanks to the Vita Foundation Grants Program we'll be able to sterilise countless animals in our Perth community. It will make a huge difference to not only the animals, but their owners and also our community as a whole, as there will be less unwanted, resold, surrendered pets.”
